Recertification
Designees must complete PBIA approved recertification by taking one (1) self-study course and one (1) ethics credit every two (2) year recertification cycle.
Effective January 1st 2024, all certificants must fulfill one ethics credit as part of the recertification requirement. This requirement ensures our certificants remain aware of crucial ethical practices and behaviors in pharmacy benefits management. There is NOT a specific “Ethics Credit” designation to select from when entering the activity. Simply include this activity in your recertification plan when applying for recertification.
The self-study course must be one other than Introduction to Pharmacy Benefit Management (Module 1). Contact hours can only be applied to the recertification cycle in which they are completed and will not be attributed to future certification periods.
CPBS designee’s must maintain their own records of their recertification period and are responsible for maintaining these records for at least two (2) years after the certification cycle ends. CPBS recertification course materials consist of on-demand recordings and supporting documents. Recertification is self-paced and must be completed within 45 days upon receipt of the course materials.
The quiz is open book, open note and a passing grade of 85% required for recertification. If a retake is required, the quiz score is determined by calculating the average score of each quiz (i.e., 1st quiz (80%) + 2nd quiz (90%) = 85% final score). If the designee for recertification has a passing grade, an updated certification will be issued.
Designees will be decertified upon the expiration date (two years from issuance date on most recent certificate) of their certification if they fail to apply for recertification and meet recertification criteria.
Designees are encouraged to apply for recertification and pay the selected course fee at least ninety (90) days prior to the expiration of their certification. Designees who become decertified must stop using the CPBS credential immediately.
